About the PEEC Survey

The IEEE Power & Energy Society invites all accredited, 4 year institutions in the U.S. and Canada to participate in the 2015-2016 Power & Energy Education Committee (PEEC) Survey. The purpose of this survey is to collect data on the state of power and energy engineering education in the U.S. and Canada. Since it began, the survey has provided the engineering education community with valuable metrics and data on topics such as: universities providing power engineering education, faculty members, curricular trends, and research topics and expenditures. View results from the 2013-2014 Survey.

The PEEC Survey is now open - click here to access.
The deadline for completing the 2015-2016 survey is October 14, 2016.

Please do check to see that someone from your institution will be submitting the survey. This will ensure that the best information about your power engineering program is available!

List Your Institution's Power Program on the PES Website

We list all institutions that respond to the survey on the PES web page for university power programs. This is a site for advertising power programs to prospective students and others who may be looking for a power engineering education. Company recruiters can use this information to find institutions to visit. Besides having your program listed there, the site provides summary information to help interested persons learn about your program. Only institutions responding to the 2015-2016 Survey will be listed on the PES website and in reports on the survey results.

New and Improved Survey!

The survey has been revised. Survey questions have been improved to make them more relevant and more easily interpreted. The data requirements have been reduced to make completion of the survey more straight-forward than previous surveys.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why Should Someone from Your Institution Complete the Survey?

There are a number of reasons why someone from your institution should complete the survey.

  • These data will be used to advertise your program on the PES web page for university power programs. Only responding universities will be listed.
  • The data will inform industry and government on the state of power engineering education and research, information that could influence important policy and funding decisions. Keeping your data current is important.
  • The data will provide insights that will help programs improve their quality.
  • Results will also be used in future power engineering education publications, such as IEEE PES papers, PEEC reports, and presentations.

How Does My Institution Participate in the PEEC Survey?

This survey is for accredited, four year institutions in the U.S. and Canada. The survey is available online.

Someone from your institution must be identified as the designated respondent. If you are to be the designated respondent, register on the survey site if you do not already have login credentials. Once you have an account, you can start the survey, but if you cannot find your university in the authorized list of participating institutions, then you will be asked to submit a request to add your university. If your institution is listed in the survey, but someone else is the designated respondent, then you will need to send a request to peecsurvey@ieee.org to request that you be made the designated respondent. You will be able to begin working on the survey after you receive an email to let you know that you have been made the designated respondent.

Who Should Fill Out the Survey?

To ensure data consistency and to avoid duplicative entries, only one person from your institution is allowed to respond to the survey. You are the designated respondent if you submitted data for your university in the last PEEC survey or if you are the first person to start the survey for a university that had been added to the list of authorized institutions. The list of designated respondents and as of July 1 is available here. You can request a change in the designated respondent for your university by (1) registering on the survey site and then (2) sending an email to peecsurvey@ieee.org requesting the change.

What Information is Needed for the Survey?

Documents have been prepared to help respondents to the 2015-2016 PEEC Survey compile the information needed to respond to the on-line survey. These documents cannot be used to submit a response to the survey. The documents are: (1) Text of the entire survey (Download Survey text in PDF) and (2) Worksheets that can be given to colleagues to help the designated respondent collect the necessary data (Worksheets in PDF)(Worksheets in .DOCX).

By When Must the Survey be Submitted?

The deadline for completing the 2015-2016 survey is October 14, 2016.

Where are the Results from Previous Surveys?

The results from the 2013-2014 Survey are provided on the PES web page for university power programs. Results from prior surveys are available on IEEE Xplore.

How is the 2015-2016 Survey Different From the Last Survey?

The survey has undergone a major revision. Survey questions have been improved to make them more relevant and more easily interpreted. The data requirements have been reduced to make completion of the survey more straight-forward than previous surveys. For universities that completed the 2013-2014 Survey, some of the data are pre-populated to make updating faster. However, all of the pre-populated data should be checked for accuracy, completeness, and proper formatting!
