Please join us as we kick off our IEEE PES Webinars Series December 15th and 19th, 2011 Title: Applying Smart Metering and Smart Grid to Improve Outage Management – Case Studies and Lessons Learned WHEN: Thursday, December 15th at 2:00 pm EST Abstract: Outage management and reliability benefits have been part of the Advanced Metering Infrastructure business case for most utilities. Are utilities realizing these benefits? How do utilities achieve them? What are the lessons learned? Should you expect the same level of benefits if you are planning an AMI system now? Can the benefits be further enhanced by exploiting the synergy with Smart Grid implementations such as advanced Distribution Automation and Distribution Management System applications? The webinar discusses these questions by looking into various elements of a successful implementation through utility case studies: technical and integration designs, data availability and data quality, operation process alignment, and change management. Biographies: Hahn Tram, SM, IEEE, is VP of Enterprise at Quanta Technology. He has helped a good number of utilities successfully develop and implement AMI, Smart Grid, and Demand Response as well as scores of Distribution and Outage Management Systems. Most recent projects includes BC Hydro (DA and Distribution Grid Operations Strategy), Hydro One (smart grid, DMS), Snohomish County PUD (DMS), and Madison Gas & Electric (DMS/OMS), and Tallahassee Utilities (AMI/MDM).  A member of the DistribuTECH Advisory Committee and Utilimetrics, Hahn is a frequent instructor in conferences and Penn State University’s Advanced School of Power Engineering (outage management, Smart Grid engineering and operations). He has BSEE and MSEE from Texas A&M University. Lisa Hahn, a Principal Advisor and Project Manager at Quanta Technology, has extensive experience in improving customer services, outage management, operations and maintenance, and asset management. She is currently the PM for Madison Gas & Electric’s DMS/OMS project. Prior to Quanta, Lisa worked at Alliant Energy for 18 years where she led the AMI change management for a 640,000 electric and gas meter deployment and led the business support team which implemented and supported Energy Delivery Operations applications including GIS, DMS/OMS, SCADA, WMS, and Meter Reading systems. Lisa has an MBA in Management and a BA in Computer Science, and is an Alliant Energy Certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt. Pilots are easy, but deciding where and what to deploy first is a complex topic. This webinar will cover the best way to move into a full scale deployment and maximize the value of the deployment. The discussion will cover the method for determining the where, what and when for technology deployment using simple, low cost methods that gather the right information to defend the deployment order to any stakeholder. The webinar will also cover some of the issues that can be avoided in the deployment of technology using these techniques. Biography: Doug Houseman, VP of Technology and Innovations at EnerNex, is a long time member of the smart grid industry, and has done work on projects around the world. He has developed many of the IEEE Smart Grid Tutorials and is working on the IEEE 2050 Grid Vision Project. Doug is a member of the NIST/EPRI smart grid framework architecture team and helped develop the NIST smart grid framework model. Doug was the lead investigator on one of the largest studies on the future of distribution companies over the last 5 years working with more than 100 utilities and 20 governments. He is routinely invited to speak at international events in the industry and has been widely quoted in a number of international publications.
