Your Gift Makes a Difference & Transforms Lives Daily

The Power & Energy Society strives to be the leading provider of scientific and engineering information on electric power and energy for the betterment of society. You can make a difference and help transform lives by giving to the IEEE PES Scholarship Plus Initiative and the IEEE Smart Village Initiative funds which are both IEEE Foundation Signature Programs.

IEEE PES Scholarship Plus Initiative

It's been estimated that the power and energy industry will experience as much as a 50% turnover in engineers, and there's increasing concern about the availability of highly-skilled, quality engineers to revitalize the nation's power grid and prepare us for a clean energy future. Our goal is to involve more undergraduates in the Power Industry in the USA & Canada. The initiative awards scholarships and connects companies seeking qualified students looking for real world experience with relevant internship and co-op experiences to build the next generation of talented engineers!

The program’s success only continues with your support! Since the initiative launched in 2011, 733 scholarships were awarded to 466 students, and your gift will help undergraduates fulfill their dreams. John W. Estey Outstanding Scholar - Region 2, Mary Scherer, Ohio State University, Class 2017 recently noted that “The PES Scholarship Plus Initiative is helping me to fulfill my dream of becoming a power engineer without being held back by an overwhelming amount of college debt.”

IEEE Smart Village Initiative

Formerly the Community Solutions Initiative (CSI), this initiative is committed to open-source design and delivery of energy solutions to the world’s poorest and most energy-deprived populations. The IEEE Smart Village flagship product is a modular easy-to-install PV solar-based community charging station named the SunBlazer. Since its inception, IEEE Smart Village has worked to perfect the SunBlazer and hone its franchise model for providing off-grid energy in less developed country (LDC) economies. It has also studied integrated LDC goods and services since electricity, alone, cannot deliver holistic development.

The IEEE Smart Village Vision is to enable partners to provide access to basic electrical services for 50 million people within 10 years. The new IEEE Smart Village brand and website will be launched in early 2015.

A gift by December 31 keeps the momentum needed to continue and expand these successful programs. Thank you in advance for acting upon your commitment to IEEE PES Sponsored Signature Programs! Your contribution will ensure the brightest of young minds will one day join our industry and develop power solutions that illuminate the world.
