I would like to bring to your attention an opportunity with the Power and Energy Society (PES) Publications for the role of Editor-in-Chief (EIC) of Power & Energy Magazine (P&E Magazine). This senior PES publication volunteer position will start from 1st July 2020. Applications are being accepted through 20th April, 2020.


Editor-in-Chief Responsibilities

Power & Energy Magazine is a flagship bi-monthly publication of the society dedicated to disseminating information on all matters of interest to electric power engineers and other professionals involved in the electric power industry with a focus on advanced concepts, technologies, and practices associated with all aspects of electric power from a technical perspective in synergy with nontechnical areas such as business, environmental, and social concerns. The magazine is distributed free to all 41k PES members. During the PES T&D Conference and Exposition event, it is also distributed free to about 14k attendees. In 2019, the total usage of P&E contents stands at 109k.

The P&E Magazine EIC has primary responsibility for appointing the editorial board members, soliciting feature articles, managing the review process of submitted articles, and selecting articles for inclusion in the magazine. S/he coordinates the production process with IEEE Pubs, including any post-acceptance editorial communication with the author(s).

The EIC will also solicit editorial columns for each bimonthly issue that usually includes:

  • Leader’s Corner
  • Guest Editorial (for themed issues)
  • History
  • Society News
  • Awards
  • Book Review
  • Letters to the Editor
  • the issue closing In My View

S/he is responsible for communicating with the Marketing Group to coordinate targeted advertising with issue themes. The EIC works with other PES periodical EICs through PES Publication Board chaired by the PES VP Publications. The EIC will have full time PES staff support.

The EIC has the responsibility of selecting the articles and editorial content for the PES e-newsletter from the published material in the P&E magazine.

Additional responsibilities may include assistance with assembling specialized compendiums including the annual “best of P&E” compendium and targeted conference compendiums such as the T&D compendium.

The responsibility also includes communicating with the Chinese and Spanish P&E magazine senior editors to provide guidance in maintaining quality standards in the local content review standards.

Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by a panel of five senior volunteers from PES Publications.
