PLAIN TALK

Plain Talk About the Electric Power Industry

November 13-15, 2018 - New Orleans, LA (Hosted by Entergy)

Early Bird Ends October 16, 2018 - Register Now!

IEEE PES PLAIN TALK courses for the power industry professional will help you to understand technical aspects of the electric power industry, even if you do not have an engineering background. You will gain insights into the concerns of engineers, the demands of regulators and consumer groups, and the factors and trends that impact the operation of today's electric power systems. These courses are also appropriate for new engineers to the industry, or for engineers in other fields who are transitioning to the electric power industry. These courses aim to increase your understanding of the electric power system by providing you with practical knowledge that you can use as you work in or with this important industry.

Topics Include:

  • Power System Basics - Understanding How the Bulk Electric Power System Works (November 13th)
  • Distribution System - Delivering Power to the Customer (November 14th)
  • Transmission System - The Interconnected Bulk Electric System (November 15th)

These courses are eligible for CEU/PDH credit.

This Webinar:

The globally relevant IEEE 1547-2018 Standard for Interconnection and Interoperability of Distributed Energy Resources with Associated Electric Power Systems Interfaces provides utilities, Distributed Energy Resources (DER) developers, regulators, service companies, and equipment manufacturers a uniform set of consensus-based requirements for distribution grid interconnection and grid support across any type and size of DER implementation.

The IEEE PES “Impact of IEEE 1547 Standard on Smart Inverters” technical report presents smart inverter features, particularly related to solar photovoltaics (PV), along with the implementation challenges and potential solutions. Comprehension of the new IEEE 1547-2018 Standard is strategic for utilities, manufacturers and regulators due to the increasing level of implementation of DERs in power systems.

This technical report is free for PES members at the PES Resource Center
