This Webinar:

Micro-utilities present an opportunity to supply electricity to some of the 1.2 billion people without access to the grid. These small-scale systems are often powered by renewable resources and rely on innovative entrepreneurs in less economically developed countries. This webinar provides the context for micro-utilities and their technologies and business models. The webinar also highlights IEEE Smart Village—an initiative seeking to empower off-grid communities through education and creation of sustainable, affordable and locally-owned entrepreneurial energy businesses. Experiences from electrification projects in Kenya, Zambia and elsewhere are used to illustrate key points.
