PES Careers Information for Employers

Employers in industry, government and education are invited to subscribe to PES-Careers. Independent HR recruiters may also use PES-Careers. PES-Careers targets full-time or part-time employment opportunities or internships for students. IEEE JobSite is recommended for advertising job opportunities for more experienced engineers.

Employers can use PES-Careers to promote and enhance their recruiting methods. Here are approaches for employer use of PES-Careers.

  • List in the Employer Directory. This lets students know that the employer hires students for power engineering positions and provides basic information about the organization. This can be free advertising for the employer's own on-line recruiting efforts.
  • Post job openings. This approach quickly gets the word out about new job opportunities. Students choosing to receive automatic notification of new job postings on PES-Careers will hear about the new opportunities on the same day they are posted! Many employers are hiring students for power engineering positions and students don't have time to visit numerous employer websites frequently.
  • Search for students based on desired job applicant attributes. Students can allow potential employers to easily and efficiently search their personal profiles and resumes to find students they would like to contact about a job opening. For example, employers can search the student database to find those students who are willing to work in a particular state.
  • Connect with students coming to PES Job Fairs. By using PES-Careers when participating in Job Fairs, employers can start communicating with students before the event and can look at resumes of students who would like to talk with an employer's recruiters.

When they use PES-Careers, employers don't have to change the way they handle job applications. For each job posting, an employer provides application instructions, which could include using the employer's standard on-line application process. An employer can also specify selected job requirements for a job posting so that students clearly see whether they meet those requirements when they view the posting.

PES-Careers can also help employers by announcing web-based events, such as employer information webinars.

IEEE PES offers PES-Careers as a free service. In return, IEEE PES makes one request of employers using PES-Careers. Employers are asked to encourage their new power engineering employees to enhance their professional development by becoming regular IEEE PES members. To help young engineers join, employers should consider contributing to their cost of IEEE membership.
