IEEE News
IEEE Supports India's Need for Power Self Sufficiency
IEEE discussed India’s energy scenario and India’s way to
self-sufficiency using the PES sponsored PowerCon 2008 as the backdrop. Experts
attending PowerCon 2008 discussed and debated various topics under the theme
"Technological advancements for the development of the power sector." The full
press release is available.
Standards
IEEE Standard C37.2 Updated
The document, Standard Electrical Power Device Function Numbers, was
adopted by AIEE in 1928 as AIEE No. 26. A joint working group of the PES
Substations and Power System Relaying Committees has recently updated the
standard. John Tengdin, a member of the updating group, offers a historical
perspective into the background behind the original intent and the revisions
that have ensued. His most
interesting presentation is posted

P&E Magazine - September 2008
"In My View" Column
The November P&E Magazine In
My View column by Richard McMahon of the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) is
entitled Alliance of Energy Suppliers, Expanding the Role of
Renewables and offers an insight into the US Utilities views on the
subject. Mr. McMahon reviews the present status of renewable sources, together
with the issues and challenges associated with the sources themselves and their
integration into the present day grid. He is an advocate for the development
and deployment of a full portfolio of advanced technologies that include energy
efficiency in both supply and demand. Further discussion is encouraged and
should be sent to molken@ieee.org.
