General Meeting Videos are Posted
The 2010 IEEE Power & Energy Society
General Meeting was held 25 - 29 July in Minneapolis, MN USA. Over 2300
people from around the world gathered to take part in tutorials, paper
presentations and a lot of networking. Videos of both the Plenary
Session and the Super Sessions are now available online at the IEEE PES
web site (under Announcements) at http://www.ieee-pes.org/2010-general-meeting-super-session-videos
. These videos combine a video of the presenter and a clear
view of their PowerPoint slides.
IEEE Medal in Power Engineering Awarded
At its annual Honors Ceremony on 26 June in
Montreal, Quebec,
Canada, the first IEEE Medal in Power Engineering was presented to
Prabha S.
Kundur. A long-time distinguished PES member and IEEE life Fellow,
Prabha
presently serves as PES Vice President for Education.

Another Look
Election of 2011 IEEE Division VII Director-elect
Later this year the voting membership of
the IEEE Power &
Energy Society (PES) will have the opportunity to elect our future
leadership.
The office of IEEE Division VII Director-elect for 2011 will be
contested. Two
candidates, Saifur Rahman and Cheryl Warren, nominated by the PES
Nominations
and Appointments Committee and approved by the Governing Board, and
potential
petition candidate Mohamed El-Hawary are candidates for this office.
Their photos,
bios, and candidate statements are available. The successful
candidates
will serve as Division VII Director-elect in 2011 and as Division VII
Director
for the period 2012–2013.
T&D Opening Session/Plenary Videos
The 2010 T&D Opening
Session/Plenary videos are now available
on the PES site. The videos are split up into six parts due to file
size and
length.
T&D 2010
T&D 2010, in New Orleans on 19-22 April was
an unqualified,
success. Statistics related to the show and a photo collage of
activities is available.

McDonald Offers Testimony at Hearing
John McDonald, past
PES President, addressed the subject of
Smart Grid Architecture and Standards: Assessing Coordination and
Progress at a
hearing conducted by the U.S. House of Representatives’ Subcommittee on
Technology and Innovation on 1 July. A press

IEEE Change the World Contest
The winners of the
second IEEE Presidents' Change the World
Competition were announced at the IEEE Honors Ceremony on 26 June. The
competition recognizes students from around the globe who have solved
real-world problems using engineering, science, leadership, and
computing
skills. Details
