IEEE Encourages Consumers to Learn about the Analog to Digital Broadcast
Transition
For the last nine years, the US broadcast industry has been preparing for
a fundamental shift in the way that broadcast signals are delivered to the
American public. The actual full-power transition from analog television to
exclusive use of digital television formally began in May 1999 and will be
completed on February 17, 2009 at 11:59 p.m. when all full power analog signals
are to be turned off. Read the full press release.
Chapter 'Doings'
The New York/Long Island PES/IAS Chapter, in conjunction with the
New York Section Life Members Affinity Group, sponsored a presentation on
technology in the fashion industry on 28 October 2008. For any who associate
that industry with 19th century technology, the report of that meeting will convince you that this
industry has adapted to present day considerations.
Standards
IEEE Standard C37.2 Updated
The document, Standard Electrical Power Device Function
Numbers, was adopted by AIEE in 1928 as AIEE No. 26. A joint working group
of the PES Substations and Power System Relaying Committees has recently
updated the standard. John Tengdin, a member of the updating group, offers a
historical perspective into the background behind the original intent and the
revisions that have ensued. His most interesting presentation is posted
