Election of PES Officers
Later this year the voting membership of the IEEE Power &
Energy Society (PES) will have the opportunity to elect our future leadership.
The offices of president-elect, secretary, and treasurer for the period
2010–2011 will be decided. Two candidates, nominated by the PES
Nominations and Appointments Committee, chaired by past President John
McDonald, and approved by the Governing Board, are contesting each office.
Their photos,
bios, and candidate statements are available.
The successful candidates will serve for the period
2010–2011.
Voting members of the Power & Energy Society may, by
petition, propose names to be added to the ballot for these offices. Details
for this procedure and qualifications for proposed candidates may be found in
the PES Bylaws. To be eligible for nomination to the office of president-elect,
the nominee shall have served as a member of the PES Governing Board in some
capacity for at least two years. More information is available.
Further details will follow in ensuing e-Newsletters and
in IEEE Power & Energy Magazine.

IEEE IN SECOND LIFE
Second Life is an online 3-D virtual world within which residents
are able to establish identities (avatars), explore, create and communicate.
Referred to as "inworld" by its residents, this interactive environment lends
itself well to social networking, collaboration and learning. IEEE has created
in Second Life a virtual infrastructure and presence to support its staff,
volunteer and member needs. This presence is spread across two islands and
serves as a gateway for people to explore and participate in the activities of
the IEEE. Opportunities to help develop the IEEE islands are open to IEEE
staff, volunteer and member groups. To view the IEEE in the Virtual World
visit: http://www.ieee.org/go/secondlife.
If you'd like to participate, please contact the IEEE Second Life Team. Send an
email to "secondlife@ieee.org"
expressing interest to become involved.
