Smart Grid Forum

The Smart Grid has become a critical agenda item in the U.S. and around the world, and the Obama administration is directing significant funding to Smart Grid developments. The IEEE Power & Energy Society is an important player in this initiative, promoting education about Smart Grid objectives, the products, technologies and standards involved and those that need to be developed to support new paradigms of technology applications for electric power networks.

In a continuing effort to emphasize the need for Smart Grid development, the IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) Executive Committee hosted a milestone Smart Grid Forum in Arlington, Va. on Thursday, April 23.

The Forum participants discussed the need to promote understanding, support and coordinate related Smart Grid activities. Attendees presented various critical elements of the Smart Grid, including standards, technology, policy and funding.

Among those in attendance were: George Arnold (NIST), Wanda Reder (IEEE PES President, IEEE NTDC SmartGrid and S&C Electric), Bob Saint (NRECA), Erich Gunther (IEEE PES Smart Grid Coordinating Committee and EnerNex), Dan Delurey (DRSG Coalition), Judy Gorman (IEEE SA), Richard DeBlasio (NREL and IEEE SA), Russ Lefevre (IEEE USA), Alvin Scolnik and John Caskey (NEMA).
